Solvay Hospice House

Embracing the utmost respect for life in times of death.

In the last moments of our lives, we all deserve to live fully in comfort and dignity. To have earthly pain eased and human bonds strengthened. To simply be, and find peace. It’s why Solvay Hospice House was created for the community by Miller-Dwan Foundation, which owns and is responsible for the hospice’s continued stewardship.

A place where the human spirit is honored

Nestled on 9.5-acres of pristine woodlands and bathed in the light of floor-to-ceiling windows that follows the rhythm of the sun, this 12-room hospice is the only one of its kind in northern Minnesota.

Hospice Care FAQs

Hospice care focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a serious illness who is approaching the end of life. A person beginning hospice care understands that his or her illness is not responding to medical attempts to cure it or to slow the disease’s progress.

Working in partnership with a person’s primary physician or hospice physician, the hospice care team provides:

  • Skilled communication about what to expect.
  • Expert management of complex physical and emotional symptoms.
  • Coordination and communication of care plans among all providers and across all settings.

Hospice also allows individuals:

  • Choice and the chance for individuals to live and die in a dignified manner.
  • The ability to choose where to receive care.
  • The presence of family and friends.
  • The ability to begin the grieving process.
